How to Setup WordPress with Bluehost

How to Setup a WordPress Site

Things to Keep in Mind Before You Get Started:

  • Total Investment: $3.95
  • Approximate Time: 12 minutes (pad 7 more minutes if you easily get distracted)
  • What  You’ll Need: Computer, internet and email address (I’m assuming you have all three)

The following is a step-by-step guide to setup a WordPress site less time than it takes you to watch an episode of Game of Thrones. To build a site in WordPress you don’t need to know or deal with complicated HTML, CSS or PHP codes…you just need to read these instructions and start seeing your vision take shape.

Literally, you could be showcasing your product, service or content an hour from now.

In this tutorial, we are going to use one of my recommended hosts, Blue Host

Why combine powerful WordPress with the reliability of Blue Host? Here are some reasons to consider:

  • WordPress install is quick and painless
  • Blue Host provides very affordable monthly plans (starting at $3.95 per month)
  • If you need support, Blue Host is on it via live chat or phone
  • You’ll be in control of your own domain/site (this is a biggie)
  • No coding involved…unless you make major theme changes

Already know your stuff? Go to Blue Host to get started right away!

Setup WordPress with Bluehost in Under an Hour

Without further ado, let’s get started by visiting Blue Host which will open in a new tab.

Setup WordPress with Bluehost

1. Choose a Plan

Blue Host offers four shared hosting choices: 1. Basic 2. Plus 3. Choice Plus 4. Pro. If I were starting off I would elect for either the Basic or Plus plans. I would go Basic if I only knew I were hosting one domain. But, if I’m anticipating having a few sites then I would sign up for the Plus plan. Both are very affordable and reliable.

Select one plan and let’s continue on…

2. Register Your Domain Name

The first and most important step in the process is to register your domain name. After selecting one of their plans you will have a chance to register a new domain name. If you have a domain that you’ve been thinking about then great. For those that don’t know or are unsure, I recommend one that is;

  • not filled with hyphens
  • preferably a .com (.net is second best)
  • avoid numbers
  • something memorable or catchy
  • easy to spell
  • speaks to your topic or brand in some way

3. Sign up for a Blue Host Account

After you click “next”, and the domain is available, then you will be directed to a sign up page where you will enter your account information. This is pretty straight forward.

Note – Under Package Information, Blue Host gives you the option to add extras such as Domain Privacy Protection, Site Backup Pro, SiteLock Domain Security…I forgo these options as I think they are unnecessary when you are getting started.

4. cPanel (Control Panel)

Now you should see your account’s home page, click on Hosting -> cpanel.

Hold up…you may be thinking what is a cPanel? Well, it’s a web based control panel (get it…cPanel?) that allows you to easily control all of your web hosting activities.

Click on “One-Click Installs”.

5. Install WordPress

This is what we’ve been waiting for, hasn’t it? We get to finally install WordPress!

Install WordPress Mojo

Then click “Install”.

Choose your domain name to install WordPress to.
